In 1966, the British-Chinese scholars Charles Kuen Kao and Hawk hamm published a paper about a new concept of the transmission medium,which laid the foundation of the modern optical communication. After 40 years of development, with the development of the quasi-synchronous digital hierarchy (PDH), Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and other digital transmission system,there has been many new technologies in the optical communication such as Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) and Automatic Switched Optical Network (ASON) etc in recent years. Overall, the development trend of the optical network technology reflected in three aspects:in shape, it is going to be the fusion of transfer and exchange; in the hardware, it is going to be the all-optical networks; in the software, it is going to be the intelligent network. The optical communication become pluralistic in society nowdays.There is a rapid development in the communications infrastructure.the Optical access network has been gradually replace the conventional analog support loops. The SDH technology is already quite mature, its application has been reviewed by long-distance network to relay network, and finally access the Internet extensively throughout. As to be designed to carry TDM services, the SDH technology occupied a dominant position now, with its high reliability, strong controllability, good scalability and a comprehensive network system transmission network. The current domestic transmission network communications carriers are based on large-scale optical SDH transmission network as the main body.But with the application and development of data services, IP-based business needs and characteristics of large particles are more and more obvious, the SDH-based transmission network also needs to change in the network structure, this paper based on the needs of the telecommunications branch of Huludao City 3G network construction and proposed a transmission network design. Through the transmission network optimization, to improve the existing network problems and improve the existing SDH transmission network. This paper introduces the basic principles of SDH transmission network and characteristics, then made a design through an instance of Huludao City Telecom. the design section gives the network topology optimization program, the original Xingcheng, Suizhong two regional transmission access split ring, composed of a number of new access ring network structure. In the implementation section, detail the cutover optimized operation of the program to ensure the safety of the cutover process, and verify the technical characteristics of SDH self-healing protection fully. It focuses on the SDH transmission network capacity expansion and increases security of implementation.Final tests for the network performance are conducted, take optimizing data of before and after optimization for comparison and contrast to make the analysis of the results. The Test results show that it can improve the reliability, security and access capacity of network greatly by optimizing the transmission network.
