The IGBT chips have high power capacity and simple drive circuit, leading to the wide use in the power electronics. Simultaneously, as the power density of power system increases, the intelligent power module (IPM) integrated with the IGBT chips and IGBT drivers came into being. The IGBT intelligent power module with its high integration and high reliability can increase the power density of power systems and simplify the developing process of the system. The IGBT driver and protection used in intelligent power module are studied in two aspects:one is the self-adaptive blanking circuit in the short protection and another is the anti-jamming design of the driver board.Common IGBT driver isolation schemes are introduced and types of IGBT protection are analyzed in chapter 1.A self-adaptive blanking circuit is proposed in chapter 2, which can adjust the blanking time automatically when the IGBT is operating at different turn-on speeds. Moreover, the added blanking circuit only has a little influence on the VCE measurement of the driver IC during IGBT operation. The short-circuit fault can be detected with minimum delay time and the IGBT module under short-circuit fault can be turned off much faster than the conventional method.High reliability of the IGBT driver and protection board is crucial for the stable operation of intelligent power module. In chapter 3, the structures of the main circuit of the IPM are analyzed with the theoretical analysis of the distribution of the electromagnetic field inside the module and the simulation results are given. According to the distribution of the EMF, the anti-jamming design on the layout and wiring for the driver is given so that the signal can transmit with the signal loops of the driver and protection. And eventually the experiment proved the importance of signal loop design of the drive circuit.
