The Wire rope is widely used in the fields of mine, petroleum, bridge, metallurgy, chemical industry. etc with its excellent characteristics of high strength, high flexibility, low weight, wear-resisting and corrosion resistance as a basic component. The length is an important index of the finished wire rope product and need accurate control on-line. The error of the length of the wire rope is directly related to the product quality, the economic benefit and the market recognition of the enterprise. An non-contact measuring method of the length based on the changing texture characteristics of the online wire rope is presented in the paper by comparing the similarity of the laser images of the online wire rope at different times and places, indirectly calculating the length of the wire rope, fundamentally avoiding the disadvantages of the contact length measuring. The method has strong advantages in accurate, efficient, feasibility without the influence of the rate of the wire rope and lay length error. The main work are as follows:1. Length measurement design of the on-line wire rope. The Length measurement design is presented based on the analysis of the movement characteristics and surface texture characteristics of the on-line wire rope.2. The hardware system design. The parameters of the laser, industrial camera hardware selection and analysis of space position;The hardware parameters change on the impact of measurement errors.3. Research of length measuring algorithms. Structure of wire rope line laser projection texture image analysis, image segmentation based on RGB channels improved algorithm and the improved Harris corner detection algorithm.
