In this paper, the FPGA implementation of the Turbo code in the airborne data link is studied.With the rapid development of science and technology, Weaponry and warfare are also evolved, the modern war has entered the information age. In the information war, the most important factor of battle effectiveness is information. The data link can ensure that all combat units are able to share information in a timely manner, thus a rapid synchronous operations can be taken. Since the aircraft have a large battle space and fast movement speed, so the airborne data link is an important branch of data link. At the same time, the reliability of data transmission is an important index of airborne data link. In order to improve the reliability, error correction coding technology is introduced. After taken into account comprehensively including many factors, this article airborne data link system using Turbo codes as the error correction coding.Firstly,this article introduces the airborne data chain and Turbo code research status at home and abroad, and briefly introduces the previous way of channel coding which is commonly used in airborne data link. Then, the basic principle of Turbo codes is presented, based on the MATLAB simulation results, the influence of the decoding algorithm, the number of iterations and the interleaving length on the performance of Turbo codes is analyzed. And according to the simulation results, the Turbo code scheme adopted in the airborne data is determined. Finally, this paper using FPGA to achieve Turbo code in hardware. Through module decomposition, the FPGA implementation process is refined, and the structure of each module is described in detail, and the timing simulation results are given.Finally, the overall program is tested onPCB board. The test indicates that the hardware implementation results match the MATLAB simulation results, the Coding gain is 8.2 dB,realized the excellent performance of Turbo code, implements the excellent properties of Turbo code and meet the requirements of airborne data link system.
