Geographic information system is an effective spatial analysis technique that can manage vast amounts of geographic data, with strong spatial analysis function, visualization function and graphics production function and so on. It offers more possibilities for meteorological early warning of geological disasters. This paper summarizes the results and experience of the work of geological disasters early warning at home and abroad in recent years, designs and builds the meteorological geological disasters forecasting system based on ArcGIS Engine component technique. It will improve the weather forecast level of the small rivers floods, flash floods and geological disasters triggered by heavy rains, regulate the national and provincial forecasts contents and methods, achieve automated production of early warning and forecast graphics products, meet the urgent requirements of disasters prevention and mitigation in China.The main contents and the main results of this study are as follows:(1) Through the study of Micaps data and other meteorological data, to write the different analytical methods for some kinds of data. Through the study of the visualization methods of contours, isosurfaces and flow field lines, to achieve the visualization of the meteorological data and the symbolization of individual class data.(2) Through the study of the ArcGIS modeling techniques and spatial analysis methods, to build different ArcGIS mapping models based on thematic map production process and the corresponding specification.(3) Through the study of ArcGIS Engine library, designing the system modules and functions for the needs of the system and building a sample system based on ArcGIS Engine.
