Demarcation Of Science In Social Constructivism

Demarcation of science has always been a very important issue in the history of the philosophy of science. Philosophers of science have always been researching on the demarcation of science. Every philosopher of science can not avoid the question what the demarcation of science is. It can be said that the thought among every philosophers of science all contains his scientific Demarcation. We can study the Demarcation of Science from as far away as natural philosophers Parmenides era to the latest philosophers of scientific practice. The traditional philosophy of science has been trying to delineated a boundary for scientific and non-scientific, but failed to give a satisfactory answer. To the 1970 s, sociologists who study the field transferred from the traditional scientific research institutions and scientific framework to the study of scientific knowledge itself, Philosophy of science began to shift from the essentialism to the social constructivism.This paper aims to do a simple analysis about the connecting role of sociology of scientific knowledge between the traditional philosophy of science and philosophy of scientific practice in the theory and its implication delimitation thought. The article first introduces the origin and development about the theory of Demarcation of science. And then describes the thought of each SSK schools, analysis the Succession and Breakthrough to the traditional philosophy of science or other schools. Then pulled out the thoughts on Demarcation of science in their theory. The thoughts of Demarcation of science in "Strong Program" and all sub-programs in the sociology of scientific knowledge,experienced a process that from a macroscopical exterior social negotiation to a microcosmic inside social negotiation, and then to a social negotiation that including the concept of laboratory. In the last part, analytic the philosophy of scientific practice that put the “practice” in the first place.The sociology of scientific knowledge play a connecting role between the traditional philosophy of science and philosophy of scientific practice,therefore, it is important to study the thought of Demarcation of science in Social Constructivism from the perspective of the history of philosophy of science.
