Resources of the coastal zone are precious. Abundant products, the beautiful scenery and historic figures and cultural heritage attract many tourists. The coast is important for the development of coastal city. However in the recent years, due to global climate warming and unreasonable coastal development, coast erosion becomes a general problem for most countries. The trend becomes serious.The measure we take for preventing coastal erosion also develops. At first we do nothing, which makes the erosion more serious; Later we construct structures, which changes the scenery a lot and affects the environment. Now the beach nourishment becomes a popular measure, artificial beach nourishment and auxiliary projects together can prevent coast erosion effectively. At the same time, this method influences little on the environment. Beach nourishment is also good for tourism development of the city.In this paper, I look back on research about beach equilibrium profile, summarize beach nourishment projects all over the world, discuss the design method of sandy beaches profile. I use Xbeach numerical model developed by Delft University of Technology to optimize key factors in profile design. This method solves the design of beach nourishment profile and "half-life period" of filled sand. Which can be a reference for beach nourishment projects.
