Seabed rock drill is necessary equipment in exploration of deep seabed mineral resources and survey of deep seabed geology etc. The first set of seabed rock drill was successfully developed in 2003. However, the type of drilling rig is provided power by battery. There are some use restrictions by performance of the battery itself. Development of high-power seabed rock drill and other large subsea equipment need to overcome the use of armored optical composite cable technology, before that, domestic scientific research ship has not been applied armored optical composite cable to power large subsea equipment. The 2-m seabed rock drill and middle long hole seabed rock drill was developed in 2009 and 2010.These two type of seabed rock drill is provided power and communication using armored optical composite cable. This is the first time using in china's ocean survey.This paper introduces the background, purpose, significance, research status at home and abroad and main research content of middle long hole seabed rock drill. The research object of this paper is power transmission of the seabed rock drill. Methods of theoretical analysis and computation, experimental prototype development, experimenting and test in lab as well as sea trial are used in the research. The key technology of power transmission and power parametersmonitoring about deep seabed rock drill are studied. The main contents of this paper are as follows:1. On the basis of drilling system job objects and operating conditions,this paper describes the basic design research ideas about rig, including the overall rig system configuration and the various subsystems, systemoperating mode, selection of systembasic design specifications.2. This paper introduces the research background, detail design, working principle and step about power supply system of seabed rock drill, citing the power compensation. Then introduced the reactive power and the method to control and compensate reactive power; its application to the high voltage power supply system of seabed rock drill is to established the basic design theory for high voltage power supply system in seafloor drilling rig, and the theory of reactive power on-site compensation for deep sea motors were established. On this basis, we developeda practicalhigh voltage power supply and distribution systemusing armored optical composite cable, and a large number of experimental studies in the laboratory. A study on the control device and technology of deep-sea high voltage relay for oil filled with seawater pressure; A lot of experiments are carried out and a practical operation technique is proposed.3. The overall design of the electronic monitoring system of the rig is introduced, including the deck monitoring system, underwater surveillance system and fiber-optic communication system. Then the detail design of the hardware design and software design of power monitoring system is introduced.4.1t describes the process, procedures and results of sea trials about power supply system of seabed rock drill.We developed the high-voltage power supply and distribution system through myriametre armoured optical composite cable by the research results. All the design functions and targets have been achieved after testing and debugging in the laboratory. In sea trials the power supply system reliable operation and the parameters were normal.It is the first time to supply large submarine core drilling equipment by long distance high-voltage power, and it lays a foundation for the future deck power supply for large marine equipment.
