With the popularity of mobile phones and the advent of the Internet of Things,mobile communication technology has been rapidly developed in the past ten years.With the popularity of 5g communication technology,we need to use a new type base station to transmit the signal,which is also called micro base stations.The buildings around the micro base station will have a big impact on signal transmission because the power of the micro base stations is so weak.In order to reduce the impact of buildings on signal transmission,we need to choose a good location to install the micro base station.So more and more people pay attention to the approach to rapidly get the information about the height and area of buildings.The manual measurement method is inefficient and slow to update the data of the buildings since the buildings in the city are crowded.With the development of the Internet,the electronic map is easier to get,people can get specific and high-resolution satellite photography on the Internet anytime,therefore,extracting attributes of buildings by electronic maps are becoming more and more popular.In this paper,we will use the electronic map on the market,extract the building contours and the building shadow to compute the area and height of the building,so that we can provide data support for choosing a better location to install the micro base station.In this paper,the building is smoothed by clustering method at first,then we will compute an optimal threshold value by analyzing the gray scale of the image,and use the optimal threshold value to segment the image.After that,we will use the morphological optimization technique and area threshold and length-width ratio threshold to remove the noise,then we will get the contours of the buildings,use the flooding algorithm to fill the contours and compute the area.The accuracy rate is94.16% of estimating area by using this method.Then we propose a method to compute the shadow threshold value dynamically by analyzing the spectral characteristics of the shadow,and use the shadow threshold value to segment the image and get the shadow.After getting the contours of the shadow,we calculate the length of the shadow by the improved corner distance method.Then we will estimate the height of buildings by using the formula which is deduced by the geometric relationship between the buildingshadow length,the height of the building and other parameters.Finally,the accuracy rate is 90.40% of estimating height by using this method.
