With the development of economy and society and the need of resource development, more and more buildings are built on the reefs.Wave propagation characteristics on the island reef terrain has gradually become the focus of study. At present, there are many studies on the crushing characteristics of the waves on the island reefs under two-dimensional conditions. In reality, waves are composed of unidirectional waves with different directions and different frequencies. The study of three-dimensional waves propagation on the island reef are still relatively rare. This paper summarizes the existing studies for the two-dimensional wave on the slope of the terrain, then the terrain is also simplied as a terrain with a 1: 5 slope and a horizontal reef. The physical model test is used to study the wave height of the regular wave, irregular wave and multidirectional wave on the terrain. At the same time, the change of spectrum after wave breaking is studied. The changes of the regular wave, irregular wave from deep water to shallow water, and energy transfer are analyzed. The difference between multi-directional wave spectrum and other one-way wave is analyzed. The influence of wave height and incident period on the and water value is analyzed. The results of previous studies are compared and analyzed. The validity of the existing results is evaluated. Finally, according to the dimensionless analysis, the empirical formula can be obtained to calculate maximum set-up and set-down water. The wave height distribution from deep water to shallow water is quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The characteristics of wave height distribution under terrain conditions are given. At the same time, the nonlinear characteristics of waves are studied.
