Crescent waves are special three-dimensional waves composed of horseshoe-shaped waves.Crescent waves have three-dimensional strong nonlinearity. When crescent waves occur, the wave heights often reach the limit of wave height and the waves usually are almost or already broken. So crescent waves may cause great damage to offshore structures.Because of crescent waves are quite different from the usual waves, the study of interaction between crescent waves and marine structures has important enjineering significance. In this paper, the interaction between L2 type horseshoe wave and cylinder under different water depth is studied by physical model experiment. The characteristics of horseshoe waves in frequency domain and time domain as well as the horizontal distribution characteristics of the wave height of different frequency in the vicinity of the cylinder are discussed. In the same time, the influence of the existence of the column on the amplitude spectrum of crescent waves and the influence of water depth on the interaction between the horseshoe wave and the cylinder is analyzed. In addition, the surface pressure of the cylinder under the L2 type crescent waves is studied. The diiference between the pressure of the cylindrical surface under the crescent waves and that of the Stokes waves in analysed in both time domain and frequency domain. The characteristics of both horizontal and vertical distribution of surface pressure of different frequency and pressure maximum are discussed. Finally the relationship between the pressure distribution and the wave height distribution is studied in this paper.
