The iron ore of Donganshan is classical refractory hematite with the charaeteristies of low grade, fine disseminated granularity and complex composition and strueture. In recent years, the production results show that the siderite content increased year by year with the increase of mining depth. This change has an strong impact on reverse flotation, resulting in a downgrading. Researches show that the adsorption and covering of fine siderite on hematite and quartz is the main reason for the difficulty appearing in reverse flotation. Therefore, a proposal was put forward by northeastern university, who suggested to separate the siderite from the feeding before reverse flotation, thus eliminate the adverse affect of siderite.The point to achieve satisfying flotation separation between iron minerals and quartz is to seek out an efficient collector which can activate the siderite. Based on the idea of new reagent development, choose a reagent called DTX as collector, reduce the flotation temperature from 45?50? to 25?28?, by means of condition experimental, determine the optimum flotation reagent system as follows:positive flotation, pH8.5, the dosage of starch 800g/t, the dosage of DTX 50g/t; reverse flotation, pH11.5, the dosage of starch 600g/t, the dosage of CaO 600g/t, the dosage of DTX 600g/t. In the close-circuit test, obtain concentrate grade 65.87%, recovery rate 67.92%, tailings grade 22.13%.In the flotation system of DTX, the natural floatability of this four minerals as follow:quartz>siderite?magnetite>hematite. At pH 8, the floatability of siderite is better than other minerals, which lead to the separation. When pH> 11, the floatability of quartz is best, separation between quartz and iron minerals can be achieved.The tests of mixed minerals show that, the collector DTX newly developed has better selectivity and strong ability for collecting siderite in positive flotation and DTX can flotate quartz in reverse flotation.After adsorption of starch and DTX, the zeta potential of four minerals change, the PZC shift also, which show the starch and DTX can attach to the mineral surface.Infrared spectra analysis show that, starch attach to mineral surface depending on hydrogen bond; except for molecular adsorption, the existence of hydrogen bond also explain the adsorption of DTX on mineral surface.
