In the open air, the precipitation will produce leaching effect to the coal mine waste rock pile, the leaching solution which contain many solutes would influence the water quality in coal mine area.The characteristics of this influence may have hidden and long-term behaviour. Complexity of the coal mine gangue particle size and components,and structure characteristics formed in piling and dumping would make the coal mine waste rock pile to be heterogeneous material. Therefore, the water movement in the heterogeneous material appear special regularity.In this paper, first of all, the theoretical study on the motion law of the unsaturated flow, and establish unsaturated seepage equation. Use the MK model to forecast the soil water characteristic parameters, and get van Genuchten model parameters. The predicted parameters are used in the numerical simulation. collect the area nature geological survey data and coal gangue geometric configuration information. Test samples physical mechanics, it is concluded that the study area of the basic physical and mechanical parameters of coal gangue.Based on the investigation of coal gangue piles geometric configuration and combining with the basic physical and mechanical parameters.Set up 2D particles heterogeneity profile model of coal gangue, simulate the flow in it.Simulation results show that different particle size of coal gangue area have different water content. Coarse particle size of coal gangue areas contain more water because the porosity is larger. In the cross area preferential flow phenomenon is observed. Water flows along the coarse particle size priority areas, like the pipeline seepage areas.
