Rock mass was under a long period of accumulation and had very complex mechanical properties, the undisturbed rock mass under a state of nature can be considered in the balance state of forces, the economic activities changed the rock mass stress state deeply and quickly, the underground rock mass was forced to adapt to the new stress environment in a short term and exchange matter and energy with the surrounding rock mass. the inhomogeneity and heterogeneity and the complex dynamics environment of the rock decided that to solve practical engineering of rock mechanics problems by seeking universal constitutive model was impossible. To classify the surrounding rock by mechanical characteristics (the surrounding rock was generally divided into brokenzone?shape zone and elastic zone), and then adopted the elastoplastic theory to calculate the stress?strain and deformation in the corresponding zone of the rock mass was the the commonly used in solving the problem of surrounding rock of roadway, the classical elastic theory can explain the strain and stress distribution of the surrounding rock before deformation well, To understand the changing process of stress in rock mass will be helpful to understand the cause of the deformation and failure of surrounding rock of roadway, the size and the direction will influence the effect of the forces,The deformation of the rock damage was the result of stress, the corresponding principal stress (?1??2??3) can derive from the six corresponding stress components (?x??y??z ?xy??xz??yz), So the deformation and destruction of roadway can be considered as the evolution result of the size and direction of the principal stress.Based on the classical theory of elastic-plastic mechanics the stress and strain of roadway surrounding rock after excavation was analyzed, combined with the energy principle the destruction form and damage reason of the surrounding rock was explored, The general rule of deformation and failure of the surrounding rock were analyzed theoretically, the numerical experiment was carried out to explore the deformation and destruction reason of roadway rock, the evolution law of the size and the direction of the principal stress in the surrounding rock of roadway in different positions of the same roadway and the same part of different roadway were analyzed, the numerical models that have the same boundary conditions, sane dimension?same excavation method?same monitoring stations arrangement were made to analyzed the evolution law of the size and direction of the principal stress in different damage degree roadways.Established the numerical model of the 3431B transportation roadway of Wu Long mine under the situation of excavation with no supporting and excavation with supporting, the evolution of the size of the principal stress of surrounding rock before and afte supporting were compared, the supporting method of the transportation roadway of Wu Long mine was evaluated.
