With the improvement of people’s consumption level, high count light wool fabrics have become the development trend of the internationalization in addition to warm function.Improving strength and abrasion resistance,reducing yarn hairiness are anecessary conditions for development of wool fabric with high count light wool fabrics.Sizing is the most simple and effective way to improve the performance of high count wool fabric. In view of yarn properties and current problem of difficult biodegradation of PVA, it is a very important topic to develope a biodegradable wool slurry. The purpose of this study was to develop a kind of protein size for wool.It was easy biodegradable and used as a substitute for PVA.In addition,it can enhance the waste reuse value of the protein of raw material.Firstly,by using gelatin protein as a raw material, emulsion polymerization with acrylic monomers was to create a kind of protein derivative auxiliary;and then it was reacted with a highly homemade reactive cationic crosslinking modification agent(WLS)to prepare a cationic protein derivative size, and the size was used in wool and wool polyester yarn sizing.Based on grafting ratio,grafting efficiency and partial yarn properties as the evaluation index,such as sizing rate,yarn strength enhancement ratio,ratio ofstretching,abrasion resistance and hairiness reducing rate,this paper studied conditions on wool yarn sizing performance effect such as mass ratio of gelatin, acrylamide,butyl acrylate,vinyl ester and the emulsifier dosage of synthesis,initiator,synthetic temperature,synthetic time,WLS dosage of synthesis,then determined a kind of optimal synthesis process for gelatin protein slurry.The structure and properties of this size were characterized and analyzed.Through the studying of the system, the optimal sizing conditions of the slurry which was used in wool and wool polyester yarn was optimized. Finally,it was explored variations in the performance of the sizing wool yarn through the determination of whiteness of yarn, enhanced rate, desizing efficiency, hairiness loss rate, water retention rate, dye uptake, K/S value and other indicators.The desizing process of sizing was optimized.The desizing and dyeing properties of desizing wool yarn were studied, andthe application effect of the slurry was evaluate.The results showed that the size of the synthesized gelatin protein was the target product.The slurry had a cationic group and a protein structure,and the molecular weight of the product was big. The slurry could improve strength and reduce yarn hairiness and increase yarn abrasion resistance,in addition it could almost replace PVA size which was difficult to biodegrade.Further more,studies had shown that little sizing was remained by appropriate conditions.Fiber surface would be introduced more cationic charge by the little slurry.It was benefit for the adsorption of anionic dyes, and it could significantly improve the dyeing properties of wool yarn.This proved that it was not necessary for desizing completely.And the size was used protein as a main raw material, it was friendly for environment with low cost,so the size met the requirements of the development of wool.
