In the evolution process of fault is always accompanied by the development of nearby related fractures. There are many difficulties for simulating strata rock breaking test due to the complexity of rock materials. The current method for simulating natural fracture generation is high temperature heating and natural cooling, fractures can't be designed in advance. Fracture length and distribution density are difficult to measure. Therefore the test specifications of metal specimens can't be copied for studying fault-related fractures, new methods need presenting.Through multiple sets of structure simulation experiments combined with particle image velocimetry, define damage parameter M of fault-related fractures from the perspective of damage mechanics. Distribution development model of fault-related fractures is acquired by computing.Damage field of different stages, studying distribution rules of fault-related fractures based on M, analyzing the control effect of fault throw, evolution scale of fault and fault location on fault-related fractures. Distribution prediction of natural fractures in JH 17 well district is evaluated in the way of describing natural fracture distribution rules with M and dividing damage field of fault. To study fault-related fractures damage description and application in high-yield oil and gas field, control rules of damage distribution on high production are predicted.Fine characterization of fault-related fractures is built; the control mechanism of fault-related fracture initiation and evolution is solved by the mechanical mechanism research of fault-related fracture formation; fault-related fracture development area is predicted by damage field, providing.A theoretical basis for fracture evolution; petroleum exploration problem controlled by fault-related fractures is solved; the acknowledgement of fault-related fractures mechanism and study method is developed.
