Substation is an integral part of the power grid as the main facilities of power transmission and transformation projects. The noise problem raising from substation equipment running inevitably causes environmental impact on on-site staff and nearby residents. It is important to study the substation equipment noise and attenuation rule and put forward reasonable noise control scheme combined with the characteristic of the frequency spectrum of noise and reduction material characteristics.In this paper, from the respects of substation reality of low frequency noise characteristics and noise control, noise source data was obtained through the field test of transformer, reactor and other major equipment and the route to control substation noise was discussed on the basis of the theoretical calculation mainly from the following three aspects:Firstly, a sound source simulation model of substation main equipment is established. The influence on the surrounding sensitive site was investigated through the model of calculation for substation field noise distribution and its simulation calculation value was compared with the measured results to verify the accuracy and rationality of noise prediction model;Secondly, a noise reduction materials with low frequency noise reduction properties was determined and its sound insulation quantity under different parameters change trend was studied, verifying its low-frequency noise reduction features and deriving the average acoustic noise reduction ability; Thirdly, the design of the transformer substation was optimized using noise prediction software and the reasonable method to control the noise reduction was put forward. The most efficient and economic noise reduction material was screened out through the noise value simulation analysis of substation boundary and sensitive site under different solution conditions according to the previous amount of noise reduction of sound insulation materials. The results showed that the sound transmission loss of ordinary noise reduction materials at low frequency is around 20 dB and the phononic crystals was about 33 dB.The best sound insulation of phononic crystals was up to 66 dB. With the increase of the cladding layer thickness and the radius of core, the peak and valley value of sound transmission loss moved towards low frequency and the sound insulation amount increased slightly.Finally, phononic crystals sound insulation cover and mineral wool sound barriers were selected for electric reactor and transformer respectively to settle the problems of noise exceeding environment standard. The study provided technical support for the earlier stage design of new substation as well as the noise control of the existing substation.
