Study Of Injection Molding For PEEK Micro Gear

Micro machine, which is energy-saving and technology-intensive, has broad prospects in many fields, such as Defense Industry, national economic field and scientific field. Plastic micro gear, as representative product of micro machine, relying on its own merits could not only replace the metal gear in some engineering fields, but also be applied perfectly to other fields where is vacuum. This paper introduces properties of poly ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) and attempts to study on the mold design and process technology of PEEK micro gear manufactured by micro injection molding. The main contents are as follows.According to the features of working environment where working load is high, PEEK possessing excellent mechanics prototyping is chosen to be used to manufacture micro gear. Then, the property and use of PEEK are illustrated. Also, the requirement of PEEK manufacture is analyzed.Based on the characteristic of structure and dimension of plastic micro gear, the injection mold is designed by following the principles and procedure of mold design. To solve the problem of mold cavity manufacture, WEDM is chosen to process the combined structure of mold cavity.The injection molding process of micro gear is simulated by using finite element method too, during which the runner balance analysis is carried out and the position of cavitation and weld mark is pointed out. The impacts of different injection molding process parameters on injection process, such as holding pressure, die temperature and melt temperature, are also studied, which could instruct following experiments.The injection molding tests are carried out by using PEEK. Injection molding machine is chosen based on the characteristic of BEEK and micro injection molding. The dimension of micro gear is measured and defect is pointed out. Taken the test as basic, the modification suggestion of mold design and injection molding process parameter presented.
