With increasing issue of energy, environment, and resource in China, task of energy saving and emission reduction in iron and steel industry is still formidable. Due to history and reality reasons, wet processing of converter gas purification is still used in iron and steel industry. The performance of wet processing of converter gas is affected by many factors.According to a wet purification system with two level venturi scrubber in an enterprise, the main work was completed as follows. (1) Thermodynamic calculation relations were established including cooling pipe, the first venturi scrubber, the first elbow, the second venturi scrubber, the second elbow and fan. (2) Curvilinear regression was conducted between resistance coefficient of venturi scrubber and geometry parameter, operating parameter in order to program calculation procedure. (3) Based on C++ platform, calculation programming was developed to realize rapid thermodynamic calculation of wet purification system. A thermodynamic calculation case was given to a wet purification system of a 150 ton converter gas. Influence of throat opening of venturi scrubber on pressure loss, throat velocity, and dust removal efficiency was analyzed. (4) According to the first venturi scrubber, conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy, and specie were set up. Based on the coupling between continuous phase and discrete phase, mass and heat transfer was considered between high temperature smoke gas and spraying droplet. Numerical simulation of flow and heat transfer in the venturi scrubber was conducted on Fluent platform. Distributions of velocity, pressure, temperature and vapor in the venturi scrubber were obtained. Comparison of numerical results to calculated results by developed software shows both in good agreement.The developed software for performance calculation of wet purification system of converter gas could overcome repeatedly iteration in calculating energy balance in venturi scrubber by hand computation and achieve rapid calculation to provide directive guidance for operator operating. Based on the numerical simulation of computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer, it is helpful for deeply understanding flow and heat transfer in venturi scrubber and providing theoretic foundation in improving dust removal efficiency and decreasing pressure loss.
