In the early 1980s, laser marking had emerged gradually with unique advantages in technology, and it was widely used in electronic appliances, food packaging, pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging industries. Polyethylene terephthalate (PBT), as one of the most durable material of engineering plastic,has good mechanical strength properties, chemical stability, electrical insulation and other characteristics. Nowdays, it is usually used in electrical and electronic industries.In this paper, a variety of PBT resins with different color master-batch, flame retardants and glass filling are designed and made. In addition, the influence of technological condition on the effect of laser marking were investigated. The main work is as follows:(1) PBT resins without adding the assistant are used and studied the influence of natural color, black and blue samples on the effect of laser marking. The results show that the natural and black samples have better results than the blue samples.(2) Brominated flame retardants are used to produce a series of non-reinforced PBT resins, and the samples with TDE have better effects that character definition, high-contras and unbiased color. The black samples with BPS and BEO can get light-colored mark of character definition but yellow. The blue samples, using three kinds of non-reinforced brominated flame retardants, cann’t get good results.(3) When halogen-free reagents are used as fire retardant of non-reinforced PBT resins, the black samples can produce good effect of laser marking, but the whiter samples can’t. Meanwhile the black samples with OP 1240 and BEP-32 can get white and clear character. But the characte’s color contrast of the white samples is small.(4) When fiberglass are used as reinforcing agent of non-reinforced PBT samples, compared with the identification of laser marking of the samples without fiberglass,the samples with it cann’t get good effects.
