High-precision carbide ball can be used in a variety of harsh work environment, such as aviation and space, oil drilling and others. The properties of the carbide ball, such as accuracy, wear resistance, working life et al can affect the reliability and stability of decisive greatly. Due to heavily relaying on work experience of workers and affected by hμman factors, the existing processing method of carbide ball is not very good, and the yield and processing efficiency of the existing processing method are very low. Current research on processing methods of carbide ball are mostly in the laboratory research stage and high-volμme, high-precision lapping methods and lappining equipment are still in the development process, so that the high-precision lapping equipment which can be put into actual production is definitely needed.As the high-precision carbide ball is demanded by dynamic compression gas bearing in the aerospace industry, GT35 carbide was studied and a new high-precision carbide ball lapping method was proposed in this paper. Through the theory and simulation analysis, this new lapping method was highly revealed. A new lapping machine based on the new lapping method was developed and the process technology was researched.To study the material properties of GT35 carbide, indentation test, scratch test and friction and wear experiment were employed. The hardness, material uniformity, cutting property under different loads, wearing behavior in defferent temperature and speed were studied in this paper and these were the basic experiment for lapping carbide balls, which can also be used in the research on the this kind of material.To process high-precision carbide ball, a new eccentric lapping method with two rotatable lapping plates was proposed and the geometric analysis was conducted. The effects of V-groove angle, eccentric distance, radius of V-groove circle, lapping speed of two plates, on the angle of rotation axis, rotation speed and revolution speed were researched. The process of reducing roundness for single ball and increasing the coherence of a batch of balls was explored. The properties of the new lapping method were sμmmarized.To study the new eccentric lapping method with two rotatable lapping plates, a nμmerical simulation model was established using MATLAB software and orthogonal experiment was employed to study the effects on the lapping tracks by lapping parameters. Eccentric lapping machine with two rotatable lapping plates was produced, based on which, influence factors of the lapping machine was studied. Orthogonal experiment was employed to optimize the processing technology.In this paper, the research on GT35 carbide, lapping theory and machine of eccentric lapping method with two rotatable lapping plates, processing technology was conducted, which are of great value in lapping high-precision carbide ball. A new lapping method and processing technology was proposed.
