With the development of science and technology, large quantities of industrial productions make products lost the original halo. The rapid development of traffic networks ship these standardized products to all parts of the country. They seriously impact the local native culture characteristics. The arrival of the globalization makes national cultures gradually become a new way, which show themself style and compete each other between countries. Thereinto, the regional culture is a flag of national standing in the world and an important mean of the disintegration of the homogeneity phenomenon. If we put regional culture into products, it not only can carry forward the traditional culture and make products have distinct regional culture characteristics, but also can bring huge economic benefits. So, the cultural products have become a new way of contemporary product development design.Tableware as the material carrier of regional culture and diet has a wider connotation change. How to make tableware not only be adapted to the demand of the era but also bear the weight of the spiritual connotation of regional culture is an important issue that should be considered to continue the tableware’s develop. This paper takes Huizhou Wuyuan culture as the background and Wuyuan diet culture characteristics and Wuyuan tableware characteristics as the basis. It’s to research a kind of development strategy of Wuyuan characteristics tableware design and design practice to Wuyuan characteristics tableware according to the research strategy.Firstly, to make clear of the relationship between Huizhou culture and Wuyuan culture to obtain the Wuyuan diet culture characteristics under the influence of Huizhou culture through methods of historical documents, wuyuan chorography, wuyuan museum and wuyuan field investigation and interview. Wuyuan’s diet culture is mainly influenced by geographical environment and natural resources conditions, and the promotion of Wuyuan folk activities and business development. It has own characteristics from materials’ selection, cooking skills, forms’ expression, intentions’ present, etc. To analyze Wuyuan diet culture to strengthen local characteristics and seek feature elements.Secondly, to make clear of the Wuyuan tableware’s concept. To obtain the style of Wuyuan tableware and utensils from the analysis of its development, shape, modelling, decoration, color of Wuyuan tableware and other appliances.Thirdly, to analyze the influence of modern life to tableware design, the possibility of new materials and new processes to tableware design and the impact of the new design idea of tableware design through market research and network resources. To conclude design inspiration of Wuyuan characteristics tableware from the contemporary tableware design.Finally, summarize Wuyuan characteristics tableware design strategy and design practice according to the above research results and methods of product development and design principles. To design and practice sholud be from the perspective of regional cultural features, consult modern tableware design’s concept, material technology and user experience’s feelings and consider the aesthetic principle of tableware and food collocation. Design schemes revolve closely around Wuyuan diet culture and geographical features. They not only use the home advantage, respect local habits and increase user experience, but also combine with the new material to explore the possibilities. The paper ends development and design research about Wuyuan characteristic tableware with three design schemes.
