The flue gas turbine expander of the catalytic cracking unit is the key equipment in the refinery processes. The safe operation and energy management of the equipment play an important role in reducing the production cost of the enterprise. The flue gas turbine expander of catalytic cracking unit is the key equipment in Jilin Petrochemical Company. Due to the low power recovery and the traditional technology of the catalytic cracking unit's flue gas turbine expander in the factory, this flue gas turbine expander must be transformed for energy saving. So it has important engineering significance and economic value to study the technologies of energy saving transformation of flue gas turbine expander.Based on the structure and working principle of the catalytic cracking unit's flue gas turbine expander, some key energy-saving transformation technologies are analyzed and adopted by combining the analysis of ANSYS numerical simulation and field experiment data. According to the working characteristics of the flue gas turbine, a transformation plan of the flue gas turbine expander is proposed for improving the efficiency of the flue gas turbine's working power and output power. During implementing the transformation plan of the flue gas turbine expander, some improved installation measures and operations are proposed for ensuring the safe operation.After the transformation of the flue gas turbine, the catalytic cracking unit has been put into operation and work smoothly. The energy-saving performances are obtained through comparing and analyzing the calibration data of the flue gas turbine before and after the transformation. The field experiment data shows that the transformed flue gas turbine can improve the flue gas turbine's efficiency 4.56% and save energy 681kW/h under the same working condition, which means the transformation not only improves the operating cycles and output power of the flue gas turbine expander, but also reduces the maintenance cost of equipment. So the research and implementation of the energy saving transformation are successful.
