The proportion of waste paper in the raw materials accounted for 65% in our country's paper industry, and this proportion will continue to rise. The waste paper contains a lot of different types of impurities, among which is glass, metal,sand and other heavy impurities. If we do not remove these impurities, the quality of pulp and paper will decline and it will damage the machine. In order to effectively remove the large amount of heavy impurities in waste paper, we need to put pulp though the high consistency cleaner to remove impurities. Therefore, the research and design of new and efficient cleaner which used in paper industry is very necessary.This article mainly studied the function, structure and working principle of the traditional high consistency cleaner. In the study, the cleaner was simulated with Fluent Software in older to find a new energy-efficient structure of cleaner. Finally we presented a new structure of high consistency cleaner which is more energy efficient.The results were as follows:(1)Study on the traditional cleaner and its flow field. Traditional cleaner internal flow field has a asymmetry feature and it is not conducive to the stability of the device; Traditional cleaner have a large pressure drop, so it required higher energy consumption. At the same time there is a short at the outlet of the pulp, which affects the separation efficiency of the cleaner.(2)Through the study on the traditional high consistency cleaner, this article proposes a new suggestion that we can change the method of forming vortex flow field by putting guide vanes in the cleaner to design a new type cleaner.(3)In the guide vane cleaner, we can find that the guide vane can help the pulp forming stable vortex flow field. This proves that it can be used in the paper industry. Guide vane cleaner internal flow field has a symmetrical feature, both the pressure profile and speed profile has a symmetrical features. It is possible to effectively eliminate the phenomenon of asymmetric, reduce the slurry flow resistance, not only to make the device more stable, but also to improve the separation efficiency.(4) The pressure drop of guide vane cleaner is smaller than the tangential entry cleaner's pressure drop, thus requiring lower power consumption. The flow rate of the guide vane cleaner is faster than tangential entry cleaner's, which means the efficiency of guide vane cleaner is higher. The structure of guide vane can reduce the field of Short circuit flow, which means the efficiency of guide vane cleaner is higher.(5)Under the same condition of diameter of 150 mm and the internal fluid of 3% concentration waste paper pulp, for the guide vane cleaner, good pulp outlet flow rate is 4.42kg/s, the slurry outlet flow rate is 1.08kg/s, and the fiber collection efficiency is 80.54%; while for the tangential entry cleaner, good pulp outlet flow rate is 3.88kg/s, the slurry outlet flow rate is 1.69kg/s, and the fiber collection efficiency is 68.31%. The fiber collection efficiency of guide vane cleaner was improved 10% higher than the tangential entry cleaner. The separation efficiency of guide vane cleaner is higher than the tangential entry cleaner. Especially in the separation of the denser particles of gravel, the separation efficiency is improved by more than 3%.
