Polyethylene(PE)is one of the most commonly polymer because of its excellent mechanical properties,wide applicability,and low cost.However,it is a non-polar material,low surface energy,difficulty to dye and poor compatibility with synthetic polar polymers.which make it is limited in its application in several technologically important fields.The compatibility between PE and other materials can be improved via grafting-modified PE to introduce polar or functional lateral group.The application realm of polyolefin can be extended in this way.Modification of PE with bimonomer was studied by solid phase graft.Study the conditions of two different types of monomer modified polyethylene,Found that between the two both similar trends,they have significantly different characteristics.Then the graft structure were determined by FTIR,the graft products which had better graft degree was gained.In the reaction of solid phase graft Polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate(GMA)on PE,we knew from orthodoxy experimental that the effects importance on graft level were listed as follows:the reaction time,the concentration of initiator,polymerization temperature,monomer ratio.The results show that the optimum condtions of solid pahse grafting are as follows:reaction temperature 105℃;reaction time 2h;PE/GMA/benzoyl peroxide(BPO)/xylene=100/6/0.3/10;molar ration of GMA to styrene(St)2.5:1,grafting percentaGE was observed about 5.87%,The effects of polymerization temperature,interface aGEnt,initiator and graft monomer on solid phase graft polymerization of GMA on PE were similar.The graft level raise at first and drop in the later with the amount of materials,temperature mentioned above increasing.St could improve graft degree remarkably.On the study of PE-g-MAH,using azobisisobutyronitrile(AIBN)and BPO as the initiator,St as comonomer,maleic anhydride(MAH)was grafted onto PE in the solid state.The effects of reaction time,reaction temperature,monomer and initiator concentrations were investigated in details.the results showed that grafting percentaGE and grafting efficiency can reach 5.1%and 85%respectively.the carbonyl group absorbance peak in 1785cm-1 rose with the increase in graft degree.
