The change of spindle bearing temperature field will affect the thermal error of machine tool, and the thermal error is one of the important factors that will affect the machining accuracy. Therefore, the spindle bearing temperature distribution is considered to be an important yardstick of measure in the machining accuracy. At present,Currently, thermal error compensation is the most important method to reduce the thermal error, the temperature field measurement is the basis of the spindle bearings thermal error compensation. Many methods of spindle temperature field measurement have been proposed. At present,many methods are used to measure the field of spindle bearing temperature,but most of the methods are based on the traditional electric type sensors,there are still many shortcomings in these traditional methods of measurement,such as wiring complexity, susceptible to electromagnetic interference,the poor stability,difficult to achieve the aim of distributed monitoring. on the other hand, the temperature measurement of the spindle of the machine tool is different from the environment temperature measurement, as a temperature sensor, fiber Bragg grating has many advantages, it is a small, free from electromagnetic interference, corrosion resistance, good stability, can cascade multiple different wavelengths in an optical fiber the grating distributed measurement characteristics, therefore the fiber grating temperature sensor is ideal for measuring the field of spindle bearing temperature. In this context, fiber grating sensing technology is purposed to be used to monitor the field of spindle bearing temperature in this paper.This paper first introduces the current research situation of the spindle bearing temperature field and the basic theory of fiber Bragg grating temperature sensor. The spindle bearing system is so complicated, the temperature distribution will change when the load and speed change, you need to be able to achieve a method of distributed measurement for real-time monitoring of the bearing based on temperature sensors, this paper then describes the principle and the fiber grating temperature sensing fiber grating spindle bearings monitoring of the temperature field principle of fiber grating temperature sensors were studied, but also on the fiber grating temperature sensor calibration experiment results show that the linearity of the optical fiber grating temperature sensor is very good, so the fiber grating temperature sensor can accurately Monitor the temperature of spindle bearings. Next, This paper introduces distribution of spindle bearings temperature field, achieve a simulation of spindle bearings by using ANSYS finite element analysis software, has achieved the spindle bearings temperature field when load is applied to the spindle in different ways, provides a basis for the layout of fiber grating temperature sensor. Then designed and built monitoring system for the spindle bearing temperature field, respectively, under radial load conditions and axial loading conditions, experiment is done on the spindle bearing temperature field measurement; finally,the research achievements and problems of this article are summarized and the future research work are prospected.
