It is an ideal process to synthetic glycerol carbonate from glycerol(GL) and dimethyl carbonate(DMC) through reaction distillation. In order to make this process successfully used in industry, the study on the catalyst kinetics and the process simulation is very important. KNO3/CaO/Al2O3 is an ideal commercial catalyst which have high catalyst activity in transesterification and good selectivity, meanwhile, its resistance to deactivation and mechanical strength is also very optimistic. The above features make it have a good prospect of industrialization. In this paper, shaped catalyst KNO3/CaO/Al2O3 is prepared according to a certain ratio and a three neck flask was used as reactor to analog batch reactor in lab, GC-9790 gas chromatograph was used to analysis samples. All process conditions is optimization to choose a best reaction conditions and the catalyst intrinsic kinetics was studied. The results showed that when catalyst partical under 80 mesh, DMC:GL=3:1,CaO:GL=0.1,and temperature reached 75°, after 3h reaction,GL conversation can reach 99.54 % while GC yield can reach 88.16 %.,according to Langmuir-Hinshelwood model,a reaction kinetics is built and matched experiment results well, and provides dynamics basis data for the reactive distillation simulation. The reactive distillation simulation was conducted using Aspen Plus software, various key process parameters is tested such as feed location, height of reactive segment, bottom temperature. The simulation results show using reactive distillation technology, the purity of GC can reach above 90 %,compare to conventional reactor plus rectification column, reactive distillation have significant energy advantages.
