The traditional method of water quality monitoring is executed manually,the data acquired by this method is too few to reflect the changes of surface water quality. Hence, environmental protection departments built a group of surface water quality auto-monitoring control system, which realizing the automation of data acquisition, transmission, storage and analysis. However, the existing system have some disadvantages such as poor integration, real-time, weak remote control, etc.In order to solve the problem above, this paper firstly analyzes the characteristics and difficulties in auto-monitoring, then, summaries the functional requirements of system from sub-station and central station's perspectives. On such a basis, this paper designs a real-time, distributed surface water quality automatic monitoring integrated control system. Specifically, this system adopts distributed control system's architecture, using TCP/IP, OPC and XML technology to refine data flow, employing internet to connection system node such as sub-station and the central station, applying real-time database and relational database to management real-time data and historical data.Finally, this designing was implemented in the surface water quality auto-monitoring project of a particular city. System's hardware and communication network was deployed by utilizing PC-based control, Ethernet, virtualization, VPN and other technology, the monitoring software was developed by using Indusoft Web Studio real-time database and Server SQL relational database. The results showed that this system is reliable and high real-time. Moreover, it completes the quality control and remote control, solves the problems above.
