Empirical Study On Relationship Between Economic Growth And Environmental Pollution In Fujian Province

Since the reform and opening up,with the sustained and rapid development of China’s economy and society,the problem of environmental pollution is becoming more and more serious,the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution has gradually become a research focus at home and abroad to discuss.Fujian province is located in the southeast coast of China,open economy system has been constantly improving and the construction of the Economic Zone on the west side of the Straits has made remarkable achievements.However,Fujian produces many environmental problems with the high speed development of economy,such as air pollution,soil pollution,water pollution and so on.The contradiction between economy and environment relationship has not been effectively alleviated.Therefore,it is highly desirable that necessary and reasonable measures are taken to gradually improve the coordination between economy and environment in Fujian.In this paper,by referring to the theory and research methods at home and abroad,the use of the environmental Kuznets curve(EKC)model to analyze the relationship between the major industrial pollutants and economic growth in Fujian province,and to verify the existence of environmental Kuznets curve in Fujian province.At the same time,further analysis of external economic factors influencing the environment in Fujian has been conducted.The results of the study show that the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution in Fujian province does not fully comply with the inverted "U" type features of the environmental Kuznets curve,for example,the relationship between industrial emissions and economic growth follows a linear trend monotonous,and the external factors will also affect the environment Kuznets curve shape.Therefore,the inverted "U" type of environmental Kuznets curve can only be regarded as a theoretical reference for experience,can’t explain the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution thoroughly.The main research contents include the following six parts:the first part is an introduction,describing the research background and significance of the research,summarizing the related research status at home and abroad,and summarizing the theoretical framework and research ideas,and then pointing out the innovative points and deficiencies.The second part is an overview of the theory of economy and environment,including economic and environmental relations theory,economic growth theory,and the theory of the environmental Kuznets curve.The third part mainly introduces the current situation of Fujian province economic growth and environmental pollution in recent years,including the development of the economy and environmental pollution etc.The fourth part is the empirical research.First selects the relevant data showing Fujian province economic growth and environmental pollution(economic growth is shown by GDP;environmental pollution index is indicated by a composition of industrial waste gas,sulfur dioxide,industrial wastewater,industrial smoke dust(powder)and industrial solid in total emissions),and employs 1994-2013 time series data to design the environmental Kuznets curve of Fujian province,in this way the relationship between the economic growth of Fujian province and industrial pollutant discharge is obtained.The fifth part analyses the external factors influencing environmental pollution in Fujian province mainly from the angles of demographic factors,industrial structure,technological innovation,foreign trade and economic policy.The sixth part is the conclusion and outlook.
