Design automation technology can guarantee design quality while improving design efficiency.Parallel drilling machine tool has a greater rigidity and load-bearing capacity,can realize the function of drilling hole under different attitude angles,and makes up disadvantages of serial drilling machine tool.Assembly modeling method,parameter transfer strategy and parameter estimation algorithm in design automation system are studied deeply and systematically in this paper.As an example,a design automation system for 1PT+3TPS parallel drilling machine tool is developed.Design requirements of 1PT+3TPS parallel drilling machine tool are analyzed,detailed design of mechanical structure for parallel drilling machine tool is conducted,static analysis and kinematics simulation of key components and parts are carried out,machining and assembling for prototype of parallel drilling machine tool is completed,and function of drilling hole along normal direction of part surface is implemented.Design template is the basis of design automation,based on Top-Down design idea,hierarchical structure of assembly model is established,basic principle and implementation method of parametric design are analyzed,assembly modeling method guided by multi-level layout and skeleton is studied,a reasonable design template is presented for design automation system of mechanical products.Planning of model parameter transfer is the key to improve design quality and design efficiency,relationship between parameters of assembly model is analyzed,transfer strategy of variant parameter based on hierarchy structure is improved,transfer strategy of parameters in parts based on breadth-first search algorithm is proposed,parameter transfer paths are optimized,parameter transfer efficiency is improved too,management of model database becomes convenient.Estimation of model parameters is further improvement of parameter transfer strategy,based on basic principle of expectation maximization,iterative process and realization mechanism of model parameter estimation are improved,which can make up disadvantage that all design parameters cannot be determined accurately by parameter transfer strategy,design quality can be guaranteed.The development goal of design automation system is analyzed,and the framework of design automation system is built.Based on Pro/E secondary development,realization methods of parameter design,model driven,database and result display modules are studied.Design automation system for 1PT+3TPS parallel drilling machine tool is developed,and design quality and design efficiency of 1PT+3TPS parallel drilling machine tool are improved.The key technology in design automation system and its application in the design of parallel drilling machine tool will not only provide method and technique support to improve design quality and design efficiency,but also enhance competitiveness of products.
