Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS)is a considerable crystallization technology for scientific researchers.Theoretical concepts and models are firstly proposed and studied by researchers in foreign countries. After a period of rapid development. The superiority of this technology have gradually appeared.the technology of LIBS in our country also has a certain development. The technical application is reflected in many aspects.LIBS technology is used to test the main components of molten steel in large steel company in China.According to the requirement of detecting, four aspects of research work made:firstly,it discusses the LIBS technology principle and the development status of LIBS technology at home and abroad, especially the application of LIBS in metallurgical analysis;then the experimental system of LIBS steel components is built, the instruments, parameters and operating procedures used in the experimental system are described, and the operation rules of the laser and intermediate frequency furnace are analyzed;then the factors that affect the accuracy of experiment is analyzed, the laser energy, laser delay time, laser focus position were investigated, improve the accuracy of the experimental data;finally, the qualitative and quantitative methods of identifying the elements of molten steel are analyzed.Quantitative analysis methods include the internal standard method, external standard method, and free calibration method. The calibration free method for quantitative analysis of the Mn element is used in molten steel. The experimental results show that the calibration method is not required to be calibrated, which can detect all elements, and the measurement accuracy is high. The main metal elements in molten steel are Fe,Mn,Cr,Ni elements, and the relative error of Mn content in molten steel is less than 5%,which meets the accuracy requirement of the experiment.
