The development of urban construction is begin to increase with the urbanization rate rising.Meanwhile,the number of construction and demolition waste(CDW)is increasing.For this renewable resource,landfilling not only take up much land,pollute environment but also waste a lot of resource.CDW recycling have become other CDW management routes in recent years.no matter which routes you choose,CDW management need a lot of money and have a large impact on environment.In construction ecology civilization's today,CDW management need to be evaluated from the perspective of economic,environment and society.Eco-efficiency looks at the compatibility between technological improvements at the micro-level and sustainability at the macro-level.It has a basis in both the value and environmental aspect.The government has paid attention to in Chongqing with negative effects of CDW increasing.In Chongqing,CDW is not only translated to be landfill site but also recycled by private recycling and state-owned recycling.However the current eco-efficiency of CDW management is still unknown in Chongqing.So quantitative analyse the eco-efficiency of CDW management and how to improve the eco-efficiency of CDW management has become one of the government and the construction industry subject.On the basis of the explanation of CDW,CDW recycling,eco-efficiency,sustainable development theory and life cycle theory,this thesis analyses the current status of the CDW production and management including classification,composition analysis,quantity and three management routes named landfilling,private recycling and state-owned recycling and CDW management scenarios are constructed.This thesis determines the environment impacts and economic cost of each management scenario by life cycle assessment and life cycle costing.Then the eco-efficiency of CDW management is calculated.Based on eco-efficiency result,we can see the current eco-efficiency of CDW management is still very low in Chongqing and has a big potential to improve.The eco-efficiency of recycling is higher than landfilling and recycling can improve the eco-efficiency of CDW treatment in Chongqing.In the ecological benefit aspect: private recycling> state-owned recycling> landfilling.In the economic cost aspect: landfilling > private recycling > state-owned recycling.Finally some advices about policy,technology and industry development are provided.In this study,the eco-efficiency is applied to study of urban CDW management.It is useful to quantify the level of CDW management in Chongqing in economic and environment aspect and provide quantitative supports to improve the eco-efficiency of CDW management.
