To meet the engineering need and improve separation efficiency,a new filtering hydrocyclone was designed with a particle arrangement unit positioned prior to the inlet.Based on particle distribution of the inlet section,the new filtering hydrocyclone can be divided into positive filtering hydrocyclone and reverse filtering hydrocyclone.By using commercial CFD software FLUENT,this paper calculated the two-phase flow field of three filtering hydrocyclones,and analyzed the velocity field,pressure field,filtering flow rate,particle trajectory,distribution of DPM concentration and separation efficiency.This paper also analyzed the influence of flow rate and inlet size on separation efficiency.The results showed that: the new filtering hydrocyclone had higher tangential velocity,axial velocity and filtering flow rate,which provided greater centrifugal force for the separation.The reverse filtering hydrocyclone had largest LZVV and lower radial velocity,which prevented the back-mixing.It was easier for small size particles to exhaust from the underflow gate,when they were injected from the outside or bottom of the inlet,or they would be exhausted from overflow gate.The inject position had little influence on the separation of big size particles which exhausted from underflow gate.The particle arrangement unit of the reverse filtering hydrocyclone can change the inject position of small size particles.It made the small size particles inject from outside of the inlet,which was helpful for the separation process.The DPM concentration of the reverse filtering hydrocyclone was the best.The separation efficiency of the reverse filtering hydrocyclone was about 10% higher than the tradition hydrocyclone.With the accretion of the inlet flow rate,the separation efficiency,filtering flow rate and pressure drop became higher.The long and narrow inlet is conducive to the separation of hydrocyclone.
