Laser manufacturing technology has become one of the indispensable manufacturing technologies in the 21 st century.In order to reveal the mechanism of laser-beam interactions with material during laser processing,forecast the manufacturing processes and optimize technological parameters,many researchers at home and abroad have already carried out deep numerical simulation of laser processing.Heat source model which describes the laser energy distribution during the laser–material interaction process palys an importante role in improving accuracy of simulation results.This paper put forward a new method to model a ladder heat source which reflect the real energy distribution based on the measured data of laser engergy distribution.Moreover,a software wich realizes the model in simulation software is developed..After that,this paper studys on numerical simulation with ladder heat source and experimental research about cutting of soda-lime glass with controlled fracture by using partial distribution laser.Based on the theory of laser principle and laser interaction with material,the process of modeling of heat source and its application are analyzed theoretically..Taking the Guasssian beam as an example,this paper presents some mathematical models of heat source,considering the laser beam with partial or distorted energy distribution or multispots.Then,the effect of energy distribution on the result of temperature field simulation has been researched.The necessity of modeling heat source based on energy distribution has been concluded.Modeling of laser heat source by using the measured data of energy distribution on basis of digital image processing technique hae been studied.An algorithm which can build a ladder model is designed.This algorithm include three main parts:processing the measured data,parameterizing the discrete data and modelling.To prove the correctness of the model and algorithm,the temperature field during the process of Q235 steel plate heated fixedly by laser beam is measured and simulated by using ladder heat source model.This papper develop a laser processing simulation assistant software based on secondary development of ABAQUS.The software can modeling heat sources including ladder model and some ideal models and defining these model in ABAQUS automatically.It also simplify the simulation work,for example,compiling Python scripting and usr subroutines of DFLUX by itself.So it establish a efficient,convenient and friendly simulation environment for laser processing.Taking laser cutting of soda-lime glass with controlled fracture.as an example,this paper builds a ladder model and an ideal Gussian model by using the algorithm and the software described before for laser with partial energy distribution,and simulates the temperature field and dynamic propagation of crack during processing The experiment by using laser with partial energy distribution has been conducted.By comparing the results of experiment and simulation,the validity and advantage of ladder heat source is discussed.
