The field investigation of in-service pipelines in oil and gas gathering plant found that applied current cathodic protection is not enough that cause corrosion of pipelines. So it is necessary to change traditional way to apply sacrificial anode cathodic protection to pipeline and develop new sacrificial anode and relative technique that can alleviate the corrosion status of pipeline.Through the research of sacrificial anodes and combining with performances of various types of anodes,magnesium/zinc composite structure was determined. And according to the results of experiments, the material, structure, melting and casting process, mold design and installation method were optimized and performance of the anode was evaluated by anode test. The results show that magnesium and zinc layer thickness ratio is 1:3 is best that both has a good protective effect on pipeline and avoid wasting anode materials.Light curing technology was used to protect anticorrosion field joints in directional drilling that was proved by the result of field installment. And the result of field installment also shows that the new magnesium/zinc composite anode covers a small area, installs flexibly and has a good adaptability of old facilities.Compare to traditional sacrificial anode, the new magnesium/zinc composite anode performed better.Because of its good protective effect, inherent economic benefit, safety and technical feasibility, the new magnesium/zinc composite sacrificial anode has a good application prospect and is worthy of promotion.
