Due to its excellent physical properties, aluminum alloy has been widely used in aerospace and machining manufacture. However, the plasticity of aluminum alloy increases due to high temperature in the turning process of aluminum alloy. The rake face of cutting tool tends to be bonded and worn due to high temperature and high pressure, which decreases cutting efficiency of cutting tool and increases cutting cost of workpiece. The study find that micro-textures can effectively decreases the cutting force and cutting temperature when the micro-textures are implanted into the rake face. But the original structure of cutting tool is damaged when textures are implanted into the rake face.As a result, the structural strength of cutting tool is decreased,it increases the wear of cutting tool. Therefore, for decreasing the wear of cutting tool, the gradient micro-texture need to be designed that not only the texture can decrease the cutting force, but also weak damage to the original structure of cutting tool.In this paper, the contents that the cutting performance of bamboo rat incisors, the influence of groove topography on the main cutting force and the biomimetic design of the gradient textures were studied, which included three aspects:(1)Bamboo rat incisors’ point cloud data were acquired through a non-contact laser scanner EASCAN-Q,the point cloud data were processed and the models of bamboo rat incisors were established by reverse modeling software GEOMAGIC.The cutting features of incisors were extracted and analyzed, which includes feature angles, feature curves, crater’s depth data.Meanwhile, vibratory transition phenomenon was found in the dental enamel area; The self-sharpening of three different predatory animals’ incisors(pig, dog and bamboo rat)were compared and analyzed.Biomimetic foundation was provided for biomimetic designing the gradient micro-textures’ cutting tool.(2)To dry turning aluminum alloy 7075 for YG6 A tool, finite element model of three-dimensional turning was established by software Deform-3D.The research how to groove-textures’ morphology(distance from groove to the main edge, groove depth, groove width and groove space)influence the main cutting force was studied. The main cutting force was mostly reduced when textures distance the main edge 10μm,groove depth 7μm,groove width 12μm and groove spacing 30μm under the experimental conditions of this paper. At the same time, groove morphology was ablated by Laser Surface Technology(LST).The conclusions of simulation were verified by tests of cutting aluminum alloy.Theory foundation was provided for biomimetic designing the gradient micro-textures’ cutting tool.(3)With the simulation and tests,a variety of the gradient micro-textures’ cutting tools were biomimetic designed based on bamboo rat incisors’ crater depth data. The model of cutting force was established by the finite software ABAQUS.The paper ensured that the gradient micro-textures’ cutting tool has better structural strength than the common micro-testures’ cutting tool. The purpose was completed that the gradient micro-textures’ cutting tool not only can decrease cutting force, but also can increase the structural strength of micro-textures’ s cutting tool.
