Twin-screw extruder is a common mixed extrusion equipment for plastic which is widely applied to the fields like polymer production,food processing and pharmaceutical industries.The performance of extruded materials mainly depends on the ratio of materials,extrusion conditions and the screw combination structure of the extruder.We can study the existence laws on the basis of maintaining excellent properties of the extruded products,then the energy consumption for extrusion could be reduced,which was beneficial for large scale production of blended materials.In this paper,experiments of blending granulation were carried out using twin-screw extruder(NE62)(screw diameter 60 mm,maximum actual speed 1200 rpm,yield up to1100kg/h)with high efficiency and low energy consumption.ABS/ABS blends and PC/ABS blends were defined as two kinds of products,combining numerical simulation technics of Ludovic software,the properties of twin-screw extruder(NE62)and processing conditions were mainly investigated,and thus both the connections between the actual producing experiments and numerical simulation and the influence of process parameters were achieved,therefore the optimum processing conditions and screw combination structure were obtained.Firstly,orthogonal experiments were designed and conducted in the production of ABS/ABS and PC/ABS blends.The influence of volume of feed,screw speed and barrel temperature on the initial residence time,power and the mechanical properties of the extruded products were analyzed.Next,the orthogonal experiments were numerically simulated with the software of Ludovic,and the numerical results were compared with the experimental results to make sure the substitutability of this software.Moreover,the influence of processing parameters like volume of feed,screw speed and barrel temperature on the initial residence time of twin screw extruder,the power and the mechanical properties of the extruded products were obtained using Ludovic.Thereafter,the extrusion situation of two kinds of twin-screw extruder NE62 and BE65 were numerically simulated by Ludovic,and residence time,power,temperature distribution,pressure distribution and viscosity distribution were compared and analyzed.Finally,the screw combination position of twin-screw extruder(NE62)was rearranged using software of Ludovic,in order to find the influence rules of changes in the position of screw combination on the average residence time and power of the twin-screw extruder.Then based on the influencerules and numerical simulation results,the twin-screw extruder(NE62)was optimized to the most beneficial screw combination.Theoretical basis and technical guidance by experimental and numerical simulation results and the influence rules could be used to the actual production of blending extruded ABS/ABS and PC/ABS with the twin-screw extruder(NE62).Then the optimum processing conditions and screw combination structure could be applied to the actual production,which could guarantee not only the excellent production performance of ABS/ABS blends and PC/ABS blends,but also the further reduction of energy consumption.
