| After China’s accession to the WTO,China’s foreign trade has developed rapidly.Accompanied by economic growth and trade expansion,it has caused serious problems in energy consumption and carbon emissions. In the era of pursuing low-carbon development,as a traditional high-energy and high-emissions industry, manufacturing’s means of growth has attracted widespread attention. The relationship between manufacturing foreign trade, economic growth, and carbon emissions has also become a research hotspot.Firstly, the paper elaborated the background and significance of the topic.Determined research methods after reading related literatures. Then discussed the mechanism of the impact of foreign trade on carbon emissions. After reconstructing the manufacturing industry into 27 sub-sectors,and using the carbon emissions calculation methods published by the IPCC to estimate the carbon emissions of the sub-sectors,the status of China’s manufacturing f oreign trade in terms of scale and structure, energy consumption and carbon emissions are described, and analyzed the relationship between them.Next, used the carbon emission model based on the Copeland(1994)general equilibrium model to study the carbon emissions from China’s manufacturing foreign trade. The data was from 27 industries in Ch ina’s manufacturing industry from 2004 to 2015,respectively verified the scale effects, composition effects and technology effects of carbon emissions from foreign trade.According to the empirical results, when it comes to the manufacturing i ndustry as a whole, the foreign trade showed negative scale effects, positive composition effects and technology effects. The trade increased the carbon emissions from the manufacturing industry;for the sub-industries,carbon emissions effects varies widely among industries.Foreign trade in industries like Manufacture of Measuring Instruments and Machinery lowered carbon emissions, while foreign trade in some industries such as Manufacture of Non-metallic Mineral Products and Manufacture of Rubber and Plastics Products has increased carbon emissions. Therefore, the industry structure in foreign trade had an important impact on carbon emissions. Finally, according to empirical research conclusions, some recommendations were proposed to coordinate the relationship between foreign trade growth and carbon emissions. |
