With the rapid development of power electronics technology,a large number of non-linear power electronic devices begin to be used widely.Which caused pollution of harmonic, harmonic affects the normal function of power system.Active power filter(APF)is becoming the main method to solve the problem of harmonic pollution, and the harmonic current detection,as one of the key links in active power filter, harmonic current detection accuracy is directly related to the APF performance. This paper analyses the harmonic detection method, based on instantaneous reactive power theory, such as p-q detection method,i_p-i_q detection method. In this paper,i_p-i_q harmonic detection method carried out a detailed analysis.i_p-i_q method is most widely used, and its detection precision and speed of dynamic response are relatively optimal. However, when asymmetric three-phase voltage, the detection result have error,so this paper put forward a kind of improvement method, improved detection method has high accuracy,to see the detecting precision of the improved detection methods with simulation by MATLAB/SIMULINK software. However, the development of active power filter is limited capacity, leading to still not being widely used.At present, the signal active power filter is unable to meet the complex power system, large capacity harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation claims. On this foundation, this parallel hybrid active power filter which has change connection points is combined with the parallel capacitor banks to form the large capacity parallel hybrid active power filter, choose the best control mode to increase the compensation capacity,to see the capacity change with simulation by MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
