With the development of the nation economy, the quantity of the solid waste and the social energy supply pressure are both increasing. So, it is high attention to improve availability of the resource waste and reduce building energy consumption. Recently, following the improvement of construction technology, many novel building materials are applied widely. Meanwhile, relative techniques are being required. As a late-model eco-friendly material, autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) possess a series of advantages, such as lightweight, thermal and sound insulating. In the paper, AAC was prepared utilizing quartz tailings, and special thin layer of adhesive and surface mortar with the AAC were also produced. Besides, block type, principles and ways of laying bricks were confirmed. The products can eat a lot of "waste", quickly solve the quartz tailings caused environmental pollution, land occupation and other issues.Finally, the exterior wall system composing of above-mentioned materials meets the national building energy efficiency design standards without using or using other less heat preservation material. Following works were carried out:(1) With the materials of Quartz tailings, cement and lime, this paper researched the effects of various materials on the performance of AAC by orthogonal experiment, then the optimum proportion was confirmed. On the basis, optimized the performance of AAC by adjusting entraining ways and introducing high silica materials, and the results indicated that the optimized AAC could conform to the demands of B07. Furthermore, the macro pore structure, hydration products and microstructure were also analyzed by the microscope test techniques.(2) With the materials of quartz tailings, cement and fly ash, the effects of various materials on the performance of special thin layer of adhesive and surface mortar were researched. Finally, the raw materials, admixture type and content was determined. The results suggested that the special thin layer of adhesive and surface mortar could adapt to AAC.(3) According to the current code for architecture structural design, new block type and size were redefined, meanwhile, V and L type aerated block which were used to the thermal insulation of exterior wall were designed. Based on the requirement of DB21/T1476-2006" Design Standard for Energy Efficiency of Residential Building", the thermodynamic calculation of the various type insulation construction was carried out, and the results demanded that the construction could meet related design requirement.
