In the environment of digital manufacturing, technical personnel have to add a lot of manufacturing process information to aircraft sheet metal design model when the stage is changed from design to manufacturing. It is mostly depend on the knowledge and experience of technical personnel to add these data. It has cumbersome process?poor accuracy and low efficiency and affects the development cycle of sheet metal directly. The complex structure of sheet metal cause the intensive demand of the knowledge. The technology of digital manufacturing is not only to solve the digital expression of sheet metal product information, but also to create three-dimensional models quickly and improve affiliated manufacturing process information by reusing existing knowledge. To solve the above problem, this paper take the data set of sheet metal manufacturing as our research target and study the forms of the data set and the methods to create the data set quickly. An application system was developed on the base of CATIA at last.The main research is as follows:(1)The digital manufacturing of aircraft sheet metal is analyzed in the first. According to the requirement of digital manufacturing, the data set of sheet metal is defined. After analyzing the composition and data structure of data set, the requirement to build the set is presented and a specification to design the manufacturing data set is formed.(2)The knowledge and experience of technical personnel is summarized. The knowledge is gained and reasoned which is involved in the manufacturing process of sheet metal parts. The knowledge base of aircraft sheet metal manufacturing is built then.(3)The way to build the two parts which are geometric information and non-geometric information of the data set is researched on the base of knowledge. The key algorithms to create the manufacturing data set are completed by using the rapid design ideology of digital manufacturing. So the foundation of data set application system is built.(4)The application system of manufacturing data set is developed in the environment of CATIA and the system framework and the function process is established. It enables technical personnel to add manufacturing structural features and the basic process information rapidly.
