| Objective:To investigate and assess the quality of life(QOL)of Patients with Non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia(NTDT); To explore the influencing factors of the quality of life of NTDT order to establish scientific basis for improving their quality of life. Methods:We have studied the QOL of the130NTDT patients who had a doctors’ office visiting in our hospital from June2013to April2014with the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Measurement Models4.0(PedsQL4.0) and the version2of SF-36-health survey(SF-36v2), to compare these NTDT patients’quality of life and that of normal persons with matchable age, sex. The factors of QOL were analyzed with multivariate linear regression.Results:(1) QOL of the NTDT patients compared with the normal persons:the juveniles with NTDT had a poor QOL in the physical health, emotional functioning, social functioning and school functioning domains compare with the normal juveniles, which were significantly different(P<0.05), especially with the lowest score in school functioning domain; The adults with NTDT had a poor QOL in physical functioning(PF)、 role-physical(RP)、bodily pain,(BP)、general health (GH)、vitality (VT)、 social functioning (SF)、role-emotional (RE)、mental health all the8domains and physical component summary (PCS)、mental component summary (MCS), which were significantly different(P<0.01), especially with the lowest score in GH、VT and MH.(2) Multivariate linear regression analyses indicated that the level of hemoglobin and serum ferritin were associated significantly with QOL(P<0.05).Conclusions:The quality of life of patients with NTDT was lower than that of normal persons; which was correlated with the level of hemoglobin and serum ferritin; we should strengthen the management of normative transfusion therapy and iron chelation therapy for improving their quality of life. |
