The continuous studies show that people will come up with various kinds of discomfort and fatigue when they enjoy the amazing visual feast brought by 3D TV. However, the 3D TV health assessment, like the lack of correlated industry and the incomplete national standard, is still in its infancy in China. It has been one of the crucial points to explore and finally to establish a standard system for the development of 3D industry. In order to lay the foundation for the establishment of this 3D TV assessment system, the electroencephalograph(EEG) and event-related potentials(ERP) are mainly used in this paper, The specific research contents and innovations:(1) EEG and ERP were introduced into the 3D TV health assessment of characteristic parameters. A test platform was set up to monitor the volunteers’ EEG signals. Five batches of experiments up to almost one hundred persons were conducted and then 145 groups of effective data were obtained.(2) R value and gravity frequency GF were calculated in this study using EEG data. It was found that R-value would raise while GF in occipital region declined after people view long-time 3D videos. Combined with subjective questionnaires, it could reach the conclusion that a strong correlation exists between the depth information and human fatigue, the greater the mean value and standard deviation of depth information were, the more tiredness would appear.(3) ERP was used to study the change of P300 component before and after short 3D movie viewing with upper board effect. Combined with subjective questionnaires, it can be concluded that short 3D video with upper board effect will cause human discomfort for the reason that the amplitude and latency of P300 changes significantly after people view this video.(4) Main parameters, such as the depth information and the difference of images brightness between the left and right eye, were explored in this study, both of which will evoke the potentials significantly, such as NPN, P250. With or without depth information, the amplitude or latency of visual evoked potential(VEP) components, such as N135 or P250, were different, which can be regarded as characteristic parameters for 3D TV health assessment. In summary, the paper proposed the 3D EEG-based health assessment factors(fatigue factor like R value and gravity frequency GF) and ERP-based health ingredients(P300 and P2 components) through the study of 3D health assessment. It basically reaches the goal of the 3D health assessment and provides an important reference for the future standard establishment in 3D industry.
