A Cohort Study On Clinical Effects Of Acupoint-Application Therapy For Preventing And Treating Childhood Bronchial Asthma (A Winter Disease) In Summer

Objective Evaluate the effect of acupoint sticking on prevention and treatment of pediatric asthma, analyze the probable factors influencing the control effect, to make a scientific evaluation on the treatment effect of pediatric asthma by using acupoint sticking which is based on the theory of curing winter diseases in summer, to provide a reference for the further innovation and improvement of such theory.Methods Relying on the Anhui Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine(AHTCM)and Children’s Hospital of Anhui Province(CHAP), collect the research objects to form a queue. Experimental group adopts the current used sticking scheme in AHTCM for applicator treatment(Applicator Group), As a control group, there is no applicator treatment. In the form of a questionnaire survey to collect the general information of the research objects, the baseline data, diagnosis and treatment of disease, illness change, influencing factors, etc. Followed the research objects for 18 months by using telephone survey, to access the change states of illness, and at last process the collected data statistically with the help of SPSS software.Results(1)A total of 329 children patients formed the study cohort, including 214boys(65.05%) and 115(34.95%) girls. Their ages spans 2.24 to 14.00 years old with average 6.03(3.25) yeas old. The applicator group contains 196 children and the control group contains 133 children.(2)The two groups are balance in comparing to each other in the aspects gender composition(χ2=0.344, P=0.558), age distribution(Z=-0.490, P=0.624), residence(χ2=0.328, P=0.567), etc. However, the difference in family medical history(χ2=23.510, P<0.001), allergic history(χ2=101.725, P<0.001),etc, has statistical significance.(3)It is similar in the hospital(Z=-0.388, P=0.698) and the therapeutic method(Z=-0.519, P=0.604) when confirmed, and in treatment(χ2=0.061, P=0.805) when attacking, etc. While in course of disease(Z=-4.578,P<0.001), While sicken age(Z=-3.594, P<0.001), seasonal exacerbation(χ2=22.911,P<0.001), Incentives(χ2=29.986, P<0.001), etc, there exit different with statistical significance.(4)The results of variance analysis on the repeated measurement of statistical data suggest: The condition changes in three different follow-up points showed a trend of getting better generally, the experimental group is better than the control group, while the difference has no statistical significance(P>0.05). The further analysis suggested that the condition changes is better for applicator therapy for more years compared to applicator therapy for a short time(1 year)( F=6.330, P=0.013).(5)The results with Logistic regression analysis suggest: the applicator therapy time negatively associated with the condition changes(β=-0.774, P=0.002; OR=0.461,95%CI:0.284-0.750). The more applicator therapy for time, the less condition changes.Conclusion Acupoint sticking has certain curative effect on prevention and treatment of pediatric asthma, the curative effect is more obvious for longer sticking time.
