ObjectiveThrough questionnaire surveys, investigate, among adolescents in Hunan Province, how Internet was utilized, what was the causing effects for Internet addictions as well as the contrasts of addiction rates by regional differences depending on local developing circumstances. In addition, from clinical perspectives, observe safety and effectiveness of electroacupuncture on points of Baihui and Yintang, explore clinical applications and develop new evidence as well as different thoughts for electroacupuncture interventions of adolescent Internet addition. And, further, find an easy, safety and effective intervention treatment which was accepted by both patient as well as their parents.Methods1. Investigation and analysisWith prevalence study and self-made "Questionnaire of Adolescent Internet Addictions" which includes normal and addiction-related circumstances, we revised the questionnaire with new options according to reference to the diagnostic criteria of Young Internet Addiction. In August -2015, July 2015, Through random number table, we selected from 4 high schools of each 2 in Changsha, Hunan and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Xiangxi, then randomly drew 16 classes in those schools as samples2. Clinical researchUsing randomized, controlled study method, the adolescents, with reference to the diagnostic criteria of Young Internet Addiction and 80 cases of inclusion criteria, were randomly divided into electroacupuncture group and control group with 40 cases in each group. By comparing changes before treatment and after a 40-day treatment, in accordance with scores in self-rating scale (YDQ) and TCM syndromes judging standard, Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale Chinese Revised Version (BIS-11), Clinical Global Impression scale (CGI) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), we examined efficacy and safety in the treatment of electroacupuncture at Baihui and Yintang points.Result:1. Investigation and analysisWe retrieved 721 questionnaires (386 male and female 335) with a recovery rate of 96.13%. 1.1The general situation of the study:375 male students (52.01%),346 girls (47.99%), aged 13-17 years old, average (15+1.2) years old; developed area 367 (50.90%), remote area 354 (49.] 0%);The first 47 (6.5%), the second 240 (33.28%),59 third 117(16.22%),130 (18.03%), high school 128 (17.75%) and high (8.18%); 420 (59.74%) father and 366 (52.06%) of mother’s education degree above junior high school; family monthly income> 1 million yuan has 192 people, accounted for 26.63%,1 million to 5 million yuan has 450 people, accounted for 62.41%,50 thousand yuan of the following has 79 people, accounted for 10.95%.1.2Internet network usage:first Internet age less than 8 years of age of 113 people and 41.02%of adolescents in Internet cafes,11.23% of teenagers will skip class or sacrifice sleep at night time,46.65% of teenagers surf the Internet is to play the game.1.3 Internet addiction:a total of 63 young people addicted to the network, the detection rate of 8.73%(52 of which boys,82.53%, girls 11, accounting for 17.46%);The developed area 40, 10.98%; 6.49%; 23 in remote areas, developed areas and remote areas detection rate had significant difference (P<0.05).1.4Factors of addiction:by multivariate logistic regression analysis, gender, age, region, parents on the Internet attitude, family economic status, began to Internet age, weekly Internet times, weekly Internet times, each time to surf the Internet and other variables into the regression equation, X2=397.353, P= 0.000.2. Clinical researchAfter a 40-day treatment, the treatment-received group showed a significant improvement according to scores with YDQ, TCM, SDS, SAS, BIS-11, CGI and VAS, which is better than the control group. Significant differences were found in both before and after treatment within treatment-received group and the comparison between the two groups. Changes of scores in VAS within each group are obvious, while difference between two groups is slim. No adverse reaction is found during the treatment.Conclusion:1. Investigation and analysisThe prevalence rate of Internet addiction was significantly higher than that in remote areas. The causing factors could possibly be their parents’attitudes, addiction time, Internet surfing frequency per week, duration of every surf, the main purpose of networking and control circumstances of each surf time. Active and effective measures should be taken as preventions and controls aimed for related factors fromvarious perspectives.2. Clinical researchElectroacupuncture treatment at points of Baihui and Yintang for Internet addiction adolecents can significantly relieve their addiction, depression and anxiety while reduce the clinical manifestations of the impulsive behavior, which is worth further research and extension. But for a small part of teenagers who were found not enough improvement after the treatment, whether these results are related to addiction durations, family situations and addiction severities remains further studies.
