Background and ObjectiveIn recent years, the incidence of COPD is becoming higher and higher.Smoking, air pollution, occupational dust exposures are the most important risk factors for the development of COPD.Early and timely diagnosis of COPD has important effects to timely therapy and prognosis. But in fact, many patients don’t have had a diagnosis until they had some particular clinical symptoms. At the time when the patients were diagnosed as COPD,often more than half of their lung function capacity has been lost. The early diagnosis and under-diagnosis of COPD have always been the difficult problems to its prognosis. In order to learn about the under-diagnosis of COPD among people of 40 years old or more in Beijing,we choose a community in Beijing. We aimed to determine the prevalence and under-diagnosis of COPD in such populations and find the factors that contribute to it in order to overcome such disease and provide some guides to clinical work and then reduce the under-diagnosis of COPD.MethodsAll the participants of 40 or more years old who have been lived in the community for more than 10 years are the target population. Our research will begin with questionnaire and pulmonary function test, through which we want to be sure of the incidence and the under-diagnosis of COPD and at the same time,we could know about the factors that have effects to the incidence and under-diagnosis of COPD.ResultsIn the community, there are 629 people who are 40 or more years old and have been lived there for more than 10 years. The total number of people who come and have a physical check is 601,525 bodies meet our standards and about 75 are diagnosed as COPD,the incidence of COPD is 14.29%,among which 85.33% are at moderate and more severe stage. The under-diagnosis of COPD was estimated to be around 30.67%.The result shows that such people are more likely to have COPD: male, frequent smoking, history of respiratory disease(P<0.05).Age has no significant effect to COPD(P>0.05).The under-diagnosis number in female is more than in male.So it is the same situation in low level of education, none or seldom smoking and a younger age.ConclusionThe incidence of COPD in the community of Beijing is 14.29%.The under-diagnosis of COPD is 30.67%.Such people are more likely to have COPD: male, frequent smoking, history of respiratory disease.Age has no significant effect to COPD.The under-diagnosis number in female is more than in male.So it is the same situation in low level of education, none or seldom smoking and a younger age.
