Objective:Paroxetine is widely used in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, but China has not yet found the safety reports about the effect of paroxetine on serum lipid levels. Our objective was to assess the effect of paroxetine on serum lipid levels of patients with Anxiety disorder or Depression.Analysis of the effect of paroxetine from the time of drug use, drug dosage, patient age and sex, disease type to analyze the influence of the factors related to the changes of serum lipid levels. It provides scientific basis for clinical medication of safeness and ration. Methods: 100 patients using paroxetine with Anxiety disorder or Depression without any metabolic or psychiatric comorbidity were included in the study.54 cases of patients with depressive disorder,46 cases of patients with anxiety disorder;52 cases were female,48 male patients;12 cases with age from 18 to 39,18 cases with age from 40 to 49,42 cases with age from 50 to 59,28 cases with age from 60 to 70;18 cases use paroxetine on a dose of 20mg/day,26 cases use paroxetine on a dose of 30mg/day,40 cases use paroxetine on a dose of 40mg/day,16 cases use paroxetine on a dose of 50mg/day.Fasting serum levels of total cholesterol,triglycerides,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)were measured on samples collected at baseline, after 2 months of paroxetine treatment, after 3 months of paroxetine treatment and after 6 months of paroxetine treatment.Statistical analysis for four Group Means with repeated measures analysis of variance.Results:(1)There was a main time effect for the change of total cholesterol and LDL-C.Time effect for the change of triglycerides and HDL-C was not statistically significant. There was no dose effect for the change of serum lipid levels.(2)The drug dose had no significant effect on the changes of blood lipid.(3)The effect of age and gender on blood lipid changes: age had no significant effect on the changes of total cholesterol,triglyceride,HDL-C.Effect of age on changes of LDL-C was statistically significant, younger subjects displaying a greater increase than older subjects in LDL-C after paroxetine treatment.Effect of gender on changes of total cholesterol,triglyceride,HDL-C and LDL-C was statistically significant.(4)Depression and anxiety disorders have a significant effect on the changes of total cholesterol and LDL-C.the total cholesterol and LDL-C levels of patients with anxiety increased more obviously.Effect of diseases on changes of triglyceride and HDL-C was not statistically significant. Conclusion: 1.The total cholesterol and LDL-C levels increased gradually with the time of medication.2.The drug dosage had no significant effect on the changes of blood lipid.3.Age had significant effect on the changes of LDL-C,younger subjects displaying a greater increase than older subjects in LDL-C after paroxetine treatment.4.Effect of gender on changes of serum lipid levels was significant, the serum lipid levels of male increased more obviously.5.Depression and anxiety disorders have a significant effect on the changes of total cholesterol and LDL-C.the total cholesterol and LDL-C levels of patients with anxiety increased more obviously.Suggestion: 1.In light of these findings, attention to serum lipid levels should accompany paroxetine use.Depression and anxiety disorder patients using paroxetine should were periodically measured serum lipid levels.Lipid medications appropriately to reduce cardiovascular risk.2.After using paroxetine, serum lipid levels of male patients and anxiety disorder patients were significantly increased. We should pay more attention to the serum lipid levels of such patients in the treatment process...
