Objectives:(1) We aimed to understand the dietary behavior, exercise behavior and health knowledge of urban youth in junior high school.(2) Building health promotion school in orter to guide youth to form a dietary and exercise behavior and improve their self heatlth care ability, which may through the intervention of health education and health promotion.(3) We purposed to analyze relevant factors that may influence the change of dietary and exercise behavior and BMI so as to provide scientific reference evidence for the further development of the project. Methods: We choosed intervention schools and control schools from Shandong and Qinghai provinces. The intervention schools were aimed to build health promotion school and the control schools did not perform any intervention strategies. Questionnaire survey and physical examination were performed among the student of the intervention and control schools in May 2014 and June 2015. The questionnaire was used to collect information on demographic characteristics, status of dietary and exercise behavior, health knowledge from respondents. A total of 3937 students were eligible for the survey, including 2058 students in the intervention group and 1879 in the control group.Chi-square tests were employed for comparing categorical data. T tests were used to compare continuous data, and we adopted logistic regression model to analyze influencing factors of the change of BMI.Results:(1)The status of sugary drinks, fruit and vegetable behavior, daily water intake, snacks intake of the student have significantly improved, when others dietary behavior changed little. The intervention of water intake, bad snacks intake have achieved the targets. The behavior of water intake had a large change and the proportion of intervention group was 29.64% in the baseline and 47.28% after the intervention, while the proportion of control group was 34.33% and 38.32%.The difference of two groups in baseline and final survey was statistically significant(P<0.05).(2)The exercise behavior during breaks and after school, exercise times per day, exercise with parents have also been significantly improved. The intervention of exercise times per day and outdoor exercise in the weekend have achieved the target. The exercise times per day had alarge change and the proportion of intervention group was 35.08% in baseline and 49.22% in the end, while the control group was 25.71% and 20.76%. The difference of two groups in baseline and final survey was statistically significant(P<0.05).(3)The health knowledge of the student have been improved such as dietary, whether fruit can instead of vegetables, whether not to eat breakfast is related to obesity etc.The awareness rate of whether not to eat breakfast is related to obesity had a largest increasion and the proportion of intervention group was 22.40% in baseline and 52.72% in the end, while the control group was 22.72% and 35.92%. The difference of two groups in final survey was statistically significant(P<0.05).(4)Intervention and the distribution of the provinces were the influence factors of the changes of dietary and exercise behavior as well as the health knowledge(P<0.05),while gender was related to changes of exercise behavior and health knowledge(P<0.05).(5)Intervention and exercise behavior were the main influencing factors of the change of BMI.The risk of BMI increased in the control group rather than the intervention group(OR=1.385,95%CI:1.004~1.911). Living in a static life had a higher likelihood of increasing the level of BMI(OR=1.870,95%CI:1.073~3.260).Living in a dunamic life had a higher likelihood of reducing the level of BMI(OR=1.757,95%CI:1.157~2.667).Conclusions: There were some unhealthy behavior among the students such as not eating breakfast, insufficient water intake, eating Western fast food etc. Moreover, there were so many students living in a static life that should require our attention The intervention of health education and health promotion have achieved most of the targets. The dietary and the exercise behavior of the students have been effectively improved as well as the awareness rate of the health knowledge.,. So it is nessary to develop the intervention of dietary and exercise among the students in junior high school.Young people should not only develop a good dietary and exercise behavior but also matser some health knowledge in order to develop a healthy lifestyle. |
