| Objective:The curative efficacy, relapse and impact on patients’ life quality between Fire needle therapy and Butyl Flufenamate Ointment were compared to evaluate whether Fire needle therapy is a convenient, rapid-acting, reliable and practical treatment of TCM for Polymorphous light eruption (syndrome of stagnation of liver qi and blood stasis).Methods:67 cases were randomly divided into two groups.35 patients in the treatment group were treated by Fire needle therapy on local lesions and meridian points, while 32 patients in the control group were treated with Butyl Flufenamate Ointment. The course of treatment was three weeks in two groups. By comparing the score changes of lesions (areas, papules, nodules, moss, exfoliation) and symptom (itching) before, at the 9th day and after the treatment as well as follow-up of both groups, the curative efficacy was evaluated at the end of the course while the long-term efficacy and relapse 2 months after the treatment. The patients’ life quality before and after the treatment was measured by the DLQI. All data were analyzed by SPSS21.0.Results:1.Intra-group comparison:Before and after treatment, the total scores of the two groups, the scores of skin lesions and the scores of DLQI were statistically significant difference (P<0.01).2. Inter-group comparison:(1) At the 9th day of the treatment, compared with the control group, the total scores of skin lesions had significantly differences (P<0.01). The score decreases of nodules, moss and itching were better than those of the control group(P<0.05), in which pruritus scores decreased significantly (P<0.01). No significant difference on the DLQI scores (P>0.05). (2) After treatment, the short-term curative efficacy of both groups and the total scores showed no significant differences (P>0.05). But the score decreases of nodules, moss and itching were better than those of the control group (P<0.05), among which, the score decreases of nodules and itching were significantly different (P<0.01). The DLQI scores had statistically significant difference (P<0.05). (3) When followed up for 2 months, the long-term curative efficacy, cure rate and total score decreases of lesions of the treatment group were better than those of the control group, and there was statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The scores of DLQI were significantly different (P<0.01). The relapse rate of the treatment group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). (4) The safety and compliance of both groups were all good, with no significant difference (P>0.05).Conclusion:1. Both Fire needle therapy and Butyl Flufenamate Ointment external treatment of polymorphous light eruption (syndrome of stagnation of liver qi and blood stasis) have good curative effects.2. Fire needle therapy, with rapid-acting, makes better efficacy on nodules, moss and itching.3. Fire needle therapy is better than Butyl Flufenamate Ointment on the long-term curative effects, the reduction of the relapse rate and the improvement of patients’ life quality for the treatment of Polymorphous light eruption (syndrome of stagnation of liver qi and blood stasis).4. With easy operating, rapid-acting, high safety and fewer adverse reactions, it is very suitable to promote the widely use of Fire needle therapy. |
