Objective To investigate the expression of excision repair cross complementing1(ercc1)gene in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods The expression of ercc1 were detected in 110 cases of esophageal sq uamous cell carcinoma and 110 cases of adjacent normal esophagus by immuno histochemical method, the correlations between the expression of ercc1 and clini copathological characteristics and prognosis were analyzed. Results The positive expression rate of ercc1 in esophageal squamous cell carcin oma was 63%(69/110),and 25%(28/110)in adjacent normal esophagus. The pos itive expression of ercc1 was not associated with patient’s age(χ2=0.006,P=0.940)、gender(χ2=0.034,P=0.854)、tumor size(χ2=0.034,P=0.854)、depth of tumor infiltration depth(χ2=0.020,P=0.889)、lymph nodes metastasis(χ2=0.979,P=0.323)and alcohol abuse(χ2=3.816,P=0.051).But it was related to the degree of tum or differentiation(χ2=4.542,P=0.033)and clinical stage(χ2=6.203,P=0.013).the p ositive expression of ercc1 was related to prognosis. Conclusion : The high expression of ercc1 gene in esophageal carcinoma was much higher than that of adjacent normal esophagus, and the high expression of ercc1 gene is associated with the degree of tumor differentiation and clinical stage. The expression of ercc1 gene also affects the prognosis of the patient s.The high expression of ercc1 gene in patients compare with low expression of ercc1 gene have a short survival time.so the expression of ercc1 in esopha geal carcinoma is associated with occurrence and development of esophageal c arcinoma, and ercc1 gene can be a prognostic indicator for the prognosis of the patient who had esophageal carcinoma.
